A soft place to land

VIRTUAL - CALIFORNIA

HI I'M JENNIE

I’m an integrative therapist specializing in anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, and relationship challenges in young adults. My therapeutic style is warm, affirming, and committed to understanding you as a whole person.

I strive to build meaningful relationships with my clients so I can provide care that is thoughtful, holistic, and personalized. Let’s work together to find your path forward.

it starts with trust

I’m a firm believer that everyone can benefit from therapy—as long you have a trusting relationship with your therapist. That said, I know trust isn’t always easy, which is why I’m dedicated to earning yours.

Instead of viewing clients as “sick”, I see them as stuck in thought and behavior patterns that were once helpful but now hold them back.

Through a therapeutic relationship based on trust and safety, we can begin to shed light on these patterns and enact meaningful changes in your life.

Rather than settling for short-term solutions, I work holistically, with a strong focus on the therapeutic relationship and building insight.

Originally from the East Coast, I grew up in a mixed-race and bicultural family. Through navigating my own identity as a biracial, bisexual woman, I developed a deep interest in psychology, relationships, and holistic approaches to healing.

I believe a therapist can only go as deep with clients as they’ve gone with themselves, and I’ve been lucky enough to do a lot of deep work on my own. Now, I’m dedicated to helping you understand your own unique identity and experiences, past and present.

Therapy is more than a job to me. I genuinely enjoy my work and find a great sense of purpose in helping people reconnect to their gifts.

affirming, inclusive,  trauma-informed care

I received my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, where much of my coursework focused on LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy. I then gained experience working with a diverse range of clients in both community mental health and private practice settings.

Currently, I’m pursuing certification in Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to resolving the effects of trauma.

I am also a Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist, supervised and employed by Blair Bishop, LMFT 129523 (CA).

A body-oriented approach to therapy

Since trauma affects the mind and body, somatic therapy can be used to help you reconnect with suppressed emotions that can lead to physical symptoms.

When appropriate, I integrate somatic techniques that are particularly effective for people who understand their behavior on an intellectual level but continue to feel stuck. It can also be a good option for those who have reached a plateau with talk therapy alone.

No matter what, I’ll meet you where you are, and work alongside you to get you where you want to be. I want you to feel seen and valued at every session.

anxiety

Anxiety can manifest in different ways, from generalized worry to specific phobias or panic attacks, impacting your daily life and overall well-being.

Therapy provides a safe and supportive space where you can explore the underlying causes of your anxiety and develop effective coping strategies. Together, we will work towards building resilience and restoring a sense of calm and control.

Depression

Depression often shows up as persistent sadness, lack of interest in activities you used to enjoy, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, or difficulty concentrating. It can also manifest physically as chronic fatigue and body aches or pains.

Treating depression holistically means looking at the big picture to address the root cause of symptoms. Depression is often the result of a complex interplay of factors, including difficulty with emotion regulation, genetic vulnerability, and chronic stress. Through a supportive relationship, we will identify the factors in your life contributing depressive symptoms and help you find greater alignment and ease.

LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy

Members of the LGBTQ+ community often have to deal with additional life stressors, such as experiences of rejection growing up, homophobia and transphobia, invalidation, and navigating issues like coming out, feeling unsafe in the world, and getting affirming medical care.

Therapy provides a supportive space to process the impact of these experiences and challenge the unhelpful narratives often internalized from oppressive systems. As a bisexual therapist, I am committed to creating a space that supports inclusivity and respect for all forms of diversity.

Identity & Self-Esteem

Identity and self-esteem are foundational to overall wellbeing. When our sense of identity feels fragmented or uncertain, this often creates a general sense of confusion, anxiety, or lack of direction.

Therapy provides a safe space to explore the emotions, beliefs, and past experiences that contribute to our sense of self. Through a relationship based on trust and safety, we will work together to help you build a stronger connection to your authenticity, so you can move forward with confidence and alignment.

Somatic Therapy for Trauma

When we experience trauma, whether as a singular event or chronically throughout our lives, our bodies automatically respond by entering one of several protective states: fight, flight, or freeze. When safety is restored, we will ideally return to a calm state where we can “rest and digest.” However, when trauma is chronic or we are not able to find a sense of safety following a traumatic event, the nervous system stays over- or under-activated for a prolonged period of time, causing anxiety, depression, and other issues.

When this is the case, somatic (body-oriented) therapy can be particularly effective. Somatic Experiencing is a gentle, body-oriented therapeutic model that can resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in the body. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE can help release, recover, and become more resilient. If you are curious about somatic therapy, please reach out for a consultation.

Children of Narcissistic Parents

Children of narcissistic parents often grow up navigating complex emotional landscapes within their families. No matter how hard they try or how much they achieve, there is a persistent sense of not being “good enough.” They may also feel like they don’t know who they are, what they want out of their lives, or how they really feel. They often struggle to maintain relationships and friendships and have a hard time asserting themselves and setting boundaries.

Therapy provides a supportive space to learn about and explore the impact of having a narcissistic parent. Together, we will work to help you assert yourself, set boundaries, and reconnect with your instincts and intuition.

College Students & Academic Stress

Going to college is a major life transition that often comes with increased academic stress, changes to friendships and relationships, and new social pressures. Many college students experience heightened stress, anxiety, depression, and feelings of loneliness, but may not yet feel comfortable talking about this with their peers.

Therapy provides safe space to freely share about these experiences without fear of judgment. With some support, you’ll be able to take better care of yourself and identify the right next steps for you.

FAQs

I am in-network with Aetna and can provide superbills (detailed receipt for the cost of sessions) for out-of-network clients seeking reimbursement from their insurance providers.

My fee is $160 per 50-minute session. If you have out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider, you will often be reimbursed for a significant percentage of the cost of therapy when you submit a superbill (detailed receipt for the cost of sessions.) If you would like to know more, please request a free consultation.

While I may resume seeing clients in-person in the future, I currently only offer virtual sessions.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.

I ask that you please cancel 24-hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged your full session fee.
